- Self Awareness/ Management
|
When I completed the Leadership Framework Wheel in the Executive Bronze Leadership challenge I knew there would be portions that I needed to work on. I recognized how tool could be used as a way for me to identify and build on those areas I knew were weak. Three of my lowest identified areas were 1) Creative Visioning 2) Intercultural Knowledge 3) Ethical Decision Making. I have actively been working to seek understanding in those areas through observation of my MPH cohort and professors since I interact with them on a daily basis. In this observations have realized how the 8 competencies of the Leadership Challenge parallel the competencies I have an obligation to uphold as an aspiring health education specialist. Since making this connection I am able to identify learning and growth opportunities in the profession. The threads between leadership and public health are becoming more clear as I practice competency building in both arenas.

StrengthsFrom the Leadership Wheel we completed in the Bronze Leadership Challenge was 1) Effective Communication and 2) Self Awareness/Management. Although, throughout this journey I've realized there is always room for personal growth for self awareness. Moreover, self-awareness and self-management is an art or practice that continues to strengthen with use. One area that I've seen grow over the course of the challenge is relationship/group development. I've observed this in my MPH cohort and in the employee wellness workshops I've taught over the course of the semester.

Development:Since starting the silver challenge I have actively been taking steps to address my top three areas for growth. I have addressed the growth for the identifies areas through attending the minority health conference, planning to take an intercultural communication course over the summer semester, and take an online training modules in public health ethics to gain more knowledge in these areas. Although these are great steps to take towards building competency in these areas, I recognize that much of this understanding will come through first hand experience and practice!
